Mayor Profile - May 2025
When Regina and I made our home in East Tawakoni 23 years ago, I had to transition from being a Big City kid to the more serene laid-back lifestyle of a small-town boy. It took me less than 6 months to convert…I liked it! I still do. The house we bought in Indian Hills was known throughout the neighborhood as the Mayor’s house. I never dreamed of becoming Mayor.
If you want to express who you think you are, run for public office. You create your profile and post it on Facebook saying this is who I am and this is what I believe in. If you get elected, you will soon discover who people really think you are and they will post it on social media along with what they believe in. What I learned in my first 2 terms as your Mayor is the real you lies somewhere in the middle between personal ego and public opinion.
Being a Public Servant is not an easy task. They don’t teach it in college and you don’t learn it working in the business world. The people you work for live in every house on every street in the entire city. Some of them are your neighbors. They’re all ages, male & female, differing religious persuasions and political parties, varying levels of education, some working, others retired, some are healthy, some sickly, multi-ethnic & nationalities all with varying economic resources. Each citizen has the same general needs, expectations and demands, and deserves attention from their elected officials.
The most basic of these are: An environment free of crime, managed city growth and development, dependable public utilities, clean air and water, safe streets, low taxes, and most of all, hear them when they need your help or just want to vent! Every decision you make on their behalf must be vetted with fairness, compassion, knowledge, and respect.
As your new Mayor, I know that public trust is the greatest honor you can achieve as an elected official. I pledge to work with council members, city departments, volunteer committees and other resources within the city of East Tawakoni and I pray daily to God to help me meet those expectations.
Thank you, to all the citizens who encouraged me to run and voted to elect me as your Mayor once again. May God bless the City of East Tawakoni, the State of Texas, and the United States of America.
Thank you,
Mayor Harold Chandler
